Podcast Equipment Guide: What You Need for Professional Recording

A practical guide to podcast equipment — microphones, headphones, audio interfaces, and recording setups — and why renting a professional studio in Navi Mumbai can be a smarter start.

Published 29 January 2026

Good podcast audio comes down to a handful of essential pieces of equipment. Whether you're planning to build a home setup or just want to understand what a professional studio provides, here's a breakdown of what you need.

Microphones

A dynamic microphone (such as a Shure SM7B or similar) is the industry standard for podcasting — it rejects background noise and sounds great for voice. Each speaker should ideally have their own mic.

Audio interface or mixer

An audio interface converts your microphone's signal into something your computer can record, and lets you connect multiple mics for multi-host shows. A mixer adds the ability to control levels for each input in real time.

Headphones

Closed-back headphones let each speaker monitor their own audio without bleeding into other microphones — essential for clean multi-person recordings.

Acoustic treatment

Foam panels, bass traps, and rugs reduce echo and reflections in a room. Even a small home setup benefits hugely from basic acoustic treatment.

Recording software

Multi-track recording software (like Audacity, Adobe Audition, or Riverside) lets you record each speaker on a separate track for easier editing later.

Cameras and lighting (for video podcasts)

If you're recording video, you'll need at least one camera per speaker, softbox or ring lighting, and a clean, branded backdrop.

Buy vs. rent: why a studio can be the smarter choice

A full home setup with mics, an interface, headphones, acoustic treatment, and video gear can cost a significant amount upfront — and still won't match the acoustics of a purpose-built room. For most new podcasters, recording at a professional podcast recording studio in Navi Mumbai means access to broadcast-quality equipment, treated rooms, and on-site support — without the upfront investment.

At Dr Bomb Studios in Vashi, all of this is included in our hourly rate. Check our pricing or read our guide on how to start a podcast in Mumbai.
